Martinez, CA Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Unlike some Bay Area cities, Martinez does not have a citywide overnight parking prohibition on residential streets. Passenger vehicles may park overnight on most public streets provided they comply with the 72-hour limit under California Vehicle Code Section 22651(k), posted time restrictions, street sweeping schedules, and any residential permit parking requirements. However, oversized vehicles (over 22 feet long, over 7 feet wide, or over 7 feet tall) are subject to additional restrictions under Martinez Municipal Code Title 10 and CVC Section 22507.5 when signs are posted; these typically prohibit oversized vehicle parking between 2 AM and 6 AM on specified streets. Recreational vehicles, motorhomes, trailers, and boats may not be stored on public streets for more than 72 hours and may not be used as dwelling units while parked on a public street (sleeping in a vehicle on a public street overnight is addressed through separate vehicle habitation ordinances in many Contra Costa jurisdictions). In residential permit parking districts, non-permitted vehicles parked overnight may be cited regardless of the 72-hour rule if signage indicates permit-only hours. Commercial vehicles over a specified weight (typically 10,000 lbs GVWR) are generally prohibited from overnight residential street parking under separate provisions.
