Contra Costa County has no county-wide ordinance prohibiting overnight parking on public roads in unincorporated areas. The general 72-hour limit in Sec. 46-4.004 applies, and individual signed restrictions or HOAs may impose stricter rules.
Research of Contra Costa County Ordinance Code Title 4, Division 46 (Traffic Regulations) finds no county-wide ordinance banning overnight parking on public roads in unincorporated areas. The principal restriction applicable to overnight on-street parking is Sec. 46-4.004, which authorizes towing of any vehicle parked on a county road for 72 or more consecutive hours. Posted local restrictions (signed time-limit zones), HOA rules, and California Vehicle Code provisions on living in a vehicle also apply. Living or sleeping in a parked RV stored on private property is separately prohibited by zoning Sec. 84-68.1404. Enforcement of on-street overnight parking is handled by the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.
Where the 72-hour limit is exceeded, the vehicle may be cited and towed under the California Vehicle Code. Stricter HOA or posted-zone restrictions are enforced separately.
