San Ramon, CA Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Municipal Code section B8-31 makes it unlawful to park or leave standing at any time, on any public street or highway in San Ramon, any oversized vehicle, or any dolly or trailer not properly connected to a towing vehicle. "Oversized vehicle" is defined by a manufacturer's gross weight rating of ten thousand pounds or more, or dimensions exceeding eighteen feet in length, eighty inches in width, or eighty-two inches in height, which covers most RVs, travel trailers and boats on trailers. Section B8-32 carves out limited exceptions.

A resident with a city permit may park an oversized noncommercial vehicle or trailer in front of the residence for up to twenty-four consecutive hours to load or unload before or after a trip, where "trip" means an extended overnight use requiring preparation time, not daily driving. A bona fide out-of-city guest, whose vehicle is registered outside San Ramon, can get a permit for up to seven days. Vehicles actively loading, unloading, or undergoing emergency repairs are exempt while that work is underway, as are commercial oversize vehicles making deliveries or construction vehicles serving a permitted job site, and special-purpose equipment vehicles operating adjacent to where they are parked.

None of these exceptions apply within twenty-five feet of a street corner, as defined by the Contra Costa County Code section adopted by reference, or where the vehicle blocks a sidewalk. Any oversized vehicle parked under an exception must, per section B8-33, carry a supplemental reflecting safety device mounted between thirty and sixty inches high, visible at night from twenty-five to one hundred feet, in addition to the reflector requirements of Vehicle Code sections 24607 and 24608.
