San Ramon, CA Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

Under Municipal Code section B8-1, the community development director or a designee may place signs or paint curb markings once authorized by resolution of the city council, and each color carries a fixed meaning citywide. A red curb means no stopping, standing or parking at any time, except as the state Vehicle Code allows, and except that a bus may stop at a signed or marked bus stop. on any day except Sundays and holidays, for any purpose other than loading or unloading, and that loading window is capped: three minutes for passengers, twenty minutes for materials.

A white curb allows only passenger loading or unloading, capped at three minutes, and that limit applies at all times, not just business hours. on days other than Sundays and holidays. Section B8-1(B) makes it a violation for any person to stop, stand or park adjacent to a legible sign or curb marking placed under this authority. A related provision, B8-4, extends the same red-curb tool to private property: a property owner may petition the city, and if the community development director certifies that public safety and welfare require it, the city council may by resolution authorize the owner to paint the curb red on private property, with the same no-stopping rule then enforceable against the public.

Neither B8-1 nor B8-4 carries its own penalty clause; enforcement runs through the code's general infraction provision, section A1-32, which sets fines up to one hundred dollars for a first violation, two hundred dollars for a second violation of the same ordinance within a year, and five hundred fifty dollars for each further violation within that year.
