Rather than fixing a parishwide overnight ban itself, it authorizes the council to 'from time to time prohibit parking at specified places and/or times,' regulate how long a vehicle may remain parked, or regulate, limit or restrict the manner of parking, and it makes the parish responsible for installing and maintaining the signs, signals or markings that give notice of any such restriction. The section then makes it unlawful to disregard the directions of that posted signage.

Because the restriction is sign-dependent, whether overnight parking is limited on a given unincorporated street depends on whether the council has designated that location; there is no default hours-based curfew printed in the Code itself. A related grace period appears at Sec. 48-116: a disabled vehicle that cannot be moved is exempt from the article's parking rules, but the driver must remove it within 36 hours and protect traffic in the meantime. Deputies and police officers retain authority under Sec. 48-117 to move, or order moved, any vehicle illegally parked in a way that obstructs traffic or creates a hazard, regardless of the hour.
