Roanoke County, VA Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Section 12-52 is the county's general on-street parking rule, sitting in Chapter 12's parking article. Subsection (a) sets the headline limit: no motor vehicle may be parked or left standing on any part of a street, highway or public way for more than five consecutive days. Subsections (e) through (g) add mechanical parking rules, cars must sit parallel to the curb with a wheel no more than twelve inches from the curb edge, spaced at least four feet apart, and never on the roadway side of a vehicle already parked at the curb.

Subsections (i) and (j) target overnight commercial and recreational parking specifically: no truck tractor, semitrailer or combination may be parked overnight on a public street in violation of the zoning ordinance's § 30-91-2(A)2, and no recreational vehicle, boat or utility trailer may be parked on a public street in an AR or residential zoning district in violation of § 30-91-2(A)1. Subsection (k) exempts emergency vehicles and personal vehicles of officers, firefighters or rescue personnel responding to an emergency. Violations of this article carry the fines listed in § 12-51: fifteen dollars for parking over the allowed time or improperly, and the county can also have the vehicle towed to a storage lot at the owner's expense.
