Turlock has no general citywide ban on overnight on-street parking. The main limit is the 72-hour rule: a vehicle left standing on a street can be tagged and removed. Overnight parking restrictions otherwise apply only where the city has created a Residential Permit Parking Zone.
The City of Turlock does not publish a general ordinance prohibiting overnight parking on public streets, so legally parked vehicles may generally remain overnight. The principal constraint is the 72-hour rule: under California Vehicle Code 22651(k) and the city's abandoned-vehicle process, a vehicle parked or standing in the same spot for more than 72 consecutive hours can be cited and towed. The City's Police Department states that vehicles parked on a street for more than 72 consecutive hours, plus inoperable or hazardous vehicles, may be considered abandoned and reported to the Abandoned Vehicle Hotline at (209) 668-5550, ext. 6110. Where neighborhoods near high-traffic destinations have petitioned for a Residential Permit Parking Zone under TMC Article 4-6-1, overnight and daytime curb parking can be restricted to residents and their guests during set hours. Occupying a recreational vehicle, travel trailer, or camper for dwelling purposes overnight on any public street or right-of-way is separately prohibited by TMC 9-2-114 unless the Chief of Police grants prior written permission. The city contracts street sweeping to Turlock Scavenger but does not publish posted overnight no-parking sweeping zones.
Vehicles exceeding 72 hours are reported to the Turlock Abandoned Vehicle Hotline, (209) 668-5550 ext. 6110, and may be tagged then towed. Stored/towed vehicle release fee is $160; the vehicle must show current DMV registration to be released.
