Cupertino's oversized-vehicle ordinance bans large vehicles from parking on public streets overnight without a permit. It targets RVs, big trailers and buses over set size limits and lets residents obtain a limited number of short-term permits each year.
Ordinance 25-2275, effective October 17, 2025, amended CMC 11.28.020 to restrict oversized-vehicle parking on public streets. An oversized vehicle is one over 22 feet in length, or over six feet wide and seven feet high. Such vehicles, including recreational vehicles, large trailers and buses, may not park on public streets between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. without a permit. Under CMC 11.27.050, residents may obtain up to 20 oversized-vehicle permits per calendar year, each valid for 72 hours; the permit must be displayed on the dashboard and the vehicle must be moved at least 1,500 feet after it expires. The ordinance also prohibits renting or loaning oversized vehicles for habitation and funds signage and an online permit system.
Oversized vehicles parked overnight without a valid permit are subject to citation and towing. Failure to move a vehicle the required distance after a permit expires, or using an oversized vehicle for habitation, is also a violation.
