Cupertino follows standard California painted-curb designations. Red means no parking at any time, yellow and white are loading zones, and green is short-term limited parking. Curb colors are enforced by citation.
Cupertino's Code Enforcement parking guidance explains the painted-curb color scheme used citywide, consistent with California Vehicle Code Section 21458. A red curb means no parking, stopping or standing at any time. A yellow curb is a commercial loading zone limited to 20 minutes for loading passengers and materials. A white curb is a passenger loading zone limited to three minutes. A green curb is a restricted parking zone limited to 12 minutes between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Curb markings take precedence over general rules, including the 15-foot fire-hydrant clearance, when markings indicate otherwise. Only the city may designate curbs; unauthorized curb painting is not recognized for enforcement.
Parking in a red zone or overstaying a yellow, white or green curb limit is a citable violation. Parking fines in Cupertino range from about $35 to $336, and vehicles in red zones may be towed.
