Cupertino prohibits heavy commercial vehicles from parking in residential areas, both on the street and in yards. Vehicles rated 10,000 pounds or more, or combinations over 60 feet long, are barred, and truck routes are designated by ordinance.
Under CMC 19.100.030, any commercial vehicle with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or more, or a truck-and-trailer combination exceeding 60 feet in length, is not permitted to park in the residential front or street-side setback. The city FAQ confirms the same 10,000-pound / 60-foot limit applies to on-street parking in residential areas. A commercial vehicle is one required to be registered under the California Vehicle Code and used to transport persons for hire or goods. Separately, CMC Chapter 11.32 designates truck routes and restriction zones, and CVC-based transportation permits are required for oversized commercial travel through the city.
Prohibited commercial vehicles parked in residential areas are subject to citation, and street citations range from about $35 to $336. Off-route truck travel may result in additional penalties under the truck-route rules.
