Cupertino restricts recreational vehicles, boats and trailers both on public streets and in residential yards. Oversized RVs may not park overnight on streets without a permit, and yard-parked vehicles must be registered, operable and on an approved surface.
Under Ordinance 25-2275 (effective October 17, 2025), CMC 11.28.020 prohibits oversized vehicles, including RVs, large trailers and boats over 22 feet long, from parking on public streets between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. without a permit. In residential yards, CMC 19.100.030 permits vehicles in the front or street-side setback but requires each to be currently registered (or on DMV planned non-operation) and operable, parked on an impervious or semi-pervious surface, with no part overhanging the right-of-way. A camper on a pickup counts as one vehicle. The city FAQ confirms an RV may be used by a guest for up to 72 hours, but vehicles parked on the street may not be used as sleeping or living quarters.
Street citations range roughly $35 to $336; oversized RVs parked overnight without a permit may be cited or towed. Unregistered or inoperable yard-parked RVs and boats may be abated as a public nuisance.
