RVs, trailers, and boats in Mountain View cannot park on public streets over 72 hours and face Large Vehicle Ordinance limits. Residential storage must be on paved surfaces, screened from view.
Mountain View adopted a Large Vehicle Ordinance restricting parking of vehicles over 22 feet long or 7 feet tall on designated streets. The ordinance was updated in 2019 following lawsuits over homeless vehicle dwellers and currently prohibits oversized vehicles on narrow streets citywide between 2 AM and 6 AM. RVs parked on private residential property must sit on a paved driveway or approved surface and cannot extend into required front yard setbacks. Recreational vehicles may be parked on the street for up to 72 hours for loading and unloading, with a maximum of 3 such events per month. Boat trailers follow the same rules. Vehicles used for human habitation on public streets are generally prohibited except in safe parking programs.
