Mountain View, CA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Sec. 1 makes it unlawful to park a commercial vehicle with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or more on any street abutting property zoned R1, R2, R3, R3-d, R3P, R2M, or a P zone used for residential purposes. The section defines commercial vehicle by reference to the State Vehicle Code and reaches large trucks parked overnight or long-term at the curb outside a home, the kind of vehicle residential streets were not built to accommodate. The ban carries real exceptions: it does not apply to a pickup truck, SUV or similarly sized vehicle even if used commercially, nor to a commercial vehicle actively making pickups or deliveries of goods to a building on the residential property, nor to one delivering materials for actual, bona fide repair, alteration, remodeling or construction work under a building permit already issued for that property.

A companion section, Sec. 2, lets the city council separately designate other streets, beyond residentially zoned frontage, where the same 10,000-pound threshold bars commercial parking by resolution.
