Cupertino's on-street parking rules require vehicles to face traffic within 18 inches of the curb, keep clear of hydrants and sidewalks, and follow posted permit and street-sweeping restrictions. Vehicles may not sit in one spot longer than 72 hours.
The city's Code Enforcement parking guidance and CMC Title 11 (Vehicles and Traffic) set the core street rules. Vehicles must be parked within 18 inches of the right-hand curb, facing the same direction as traffic, and at least 15 feet from a fire hydrant unless curb markings indicate otherwise. Vehicles may not obstruct a sidewalk or park on the planting strip between the sidewalk and street, and vehicle repair on the street is prohibited. Under CMC 11.24.130, no vehicle may be parked on a public street longer than 72 consecutive hours without being moved. Many neighborhoods have posted residential permit-parking zones and bi-monthly street-sweeping restrictions that are separately enforced.
Parking citations range from about $35 to $336. Vehicles left over 72 hours, parked in permit zones without a permit, or blocking hydrants or sidewalks are subject to citation and, in some cases, towing.
