Cupertino limits how many vehicles can park in a residential front-yard setback and requires paved surfaces and specific orientation. Longer vehicles must park perpendicular to the street, and driveway widths are set by lot depth.
CMC 19.100.030 governs parking in residential front and street-side setbacks. A maximum of four vehicles may be parked in the front-yard setback (six in larger-lot zones), unless additional vehicles are fully enclosed in a legal structure. All vehicles must be on a permanent impervious or semi-pervious surface, and impervious surfaces may not exceed 40 percent of the front-yard area (50 percent on lots under 60 feet wide). Vehicles over 20 feet long, including motorhomes, must be parked perpendicular to the street unless on a conforming circular driveway. Rear-yard driveways serving a detached garage must be at least 10 feet wide (12 feet for lots over 150 feet long).
Front-yard parking violations, unpaved parking, and exceeding the vehicle count are code-enforcement matters subject to citation and abatement. Vehicles improperly oriented or on excess impervious area may be ordered into compliance.
