Leander Code Sec. 12.04.010 prohibits parking or leaving standing on any public street, right-of-way, or alley any vehicle rated 10,000 pounds GVWR or more, plus any trailer (mounted or unmounted) and any camper or canopy. The only exception is active pickups and deliveries. Each violation is a nuisance fined $50 to $500 per day.
Leander's oversized-vehicle limits come from Section 12.04.010 (Parking of large vehicles, trailers and recreational vehicles), which was adopted to prevent abusive storage of vehicles on residential rights-of-way. It is a violation to park or leave standing on any public street right-of-way, public street, or alleyway any mobile home, recreational vehicle, bus, truck, tractor, semi-tractor, or other vehicle with a manufacturer's gross vehicle rating of 10,000 pounds or more. The section independently prohibits any mounted or unmounted trailer of any size on those public ways, and prohibits placing a camper or canopy (mounted or unmounted) within a public street right-of-way for any period of time. The prohibition does not apply when the vehicle is stopped to make pickups or deliveries or to deliver materials or goods used at the location, and it also reaches private parking lots posted 'No Parking' without owner consent. Every violation is a declared public nuisance, the city attorney may seek an injunction, and a separate offense is committed each day. Oversized vehicles that travel through Leander (rather than park) are also subject to Texas statewide size-and-weight limits and the state oversize/overweight permit system administered by TxDMV.
Parking a vehicle of 10,000 lb GVWR or more, a trailer, or a camper/canopy on a Leander public street, right-of-way, or alley outside an active pickup or delivery violates Sec. 12.04.010 and is a declared nuisance fined $50-$500 per day (each day a separate offense). The city may also seek a court injunction to stop the violation.
