Leander directly bans storing RVs, campers, and trailers on public streets. Under Code Sec. 12.04.010 it is unlawful to leave standing on any public street, right-of-way, or alley a recreational vehicle, bus, or truck rated 10,000 pounds GVWR or more, or any trailer or camper. Violations are a nuisance fined $50 to $500 per day.
The City of Leander has a specific large-vehicle ordinance, Section 12.04.010 (Parking of large vehicles, trailers and recreational vehicles), adopted to stop abusive storage of vehicles on residential rights-of-way. It makes it a violation to park or leave standing on any public street right-of-way, public street, or alleyway any recreational vehicle, mobile home, bus, truck, tractor, semi-tractor, or other vehicle with a manufacturer's gross vehicle rating of 10,000 pounds or more. Separately, the same section bars any mounted or unmounted trailer of any size from those public ways, and prohibits placing a camper or canopy (mounted or unmounted) within a public street right-of-way for any period of time. A boat on a trailer therefore falls under both the trailer ban and the camper/storage purpose of the section. The prohibition does not apply when the vehicle is stopped to make pickups or deliveries or to deliver materials or goods used at that location. The rule also reaches private parking lots: it is a violation to park these vehicles or trailers on a private lot, without the owner's consent, where a 'No Parking' notice is posted. Every violation is declared a public nuisance, the city attorney may seek an injunction, and a separate offense is committed each day the violation continues.
Leaving an RV, motorhome, camper, boat trailer, or any trailer on a Leander public street, right-of-way, or alley (outside an active pickup/delivery) is a violation declared a nuisance under Sec. 12.04.010. The fine is not less than $50 nor more than $500 for each offense, with a separate offense each day it continues, and the city may also seek a court injunction.
