Frederick, MD Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Sec. 13-23 targets the RV, work truck and trailer parking that residential streets in Frederick are not built to hold. Subsection (a) prohibits parking any motor vehicle exceeding 8 feet wide (excluding mirrors), 8 feet tall, or 22 feet long on a residential street, and extends the same dimensional cap to a vehicle whose externally mounted equipment, like a ladder rack, plow or lift gate, pushes it over those limits. Any trailer or semitrailer is banned outright from residential streets regardless of size, which covers boat trailers, camper trailers and utility trailers alike.

The section carves out four exemptions: emergency vehicles, a vehicle actively loading or unloading freight or passengers, a vehicle performing utility or property services, and a vehicle sidelined by mechanical failure or another emergency, but that breakdown exemption expires after 48 hours unless the owner has notified the Frederick Police Department. Enforcement runs through Sec. 13-42's citation authority, with a fine capped at $100 per Sec. 13-23(c)(1), or the City can instead invoke the impoundment power in Sec. 13-21 and have the oversized vehicle towed.

Because the rule addresses on-street parking specifically, it does not reach a properly sized RV or boat trailer kept in a driveway; that off-street scenario is instead governed by Sec. 13-25's separate front-yard and paved-surface standards for residential lots.
