Freehold Township, NJ Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Section 190-108 of the Freehold Township Code governs front yards township-wide. Subsection C draws a direct line between ordinary vehicles and heavy or recreational equipment: no front yard in any residential zone may be used for the storage of vehicles exceeding 10,000 pounds, or for parking boats, trailers or equipment, full stop. The exception is narrow and applies only to vehicles in operating condition parked on an improved driveway or parking area, meaning a paved or otherwise properly surfaced spot rather than the lawn. The same section otherwise restricts what can sit in a front yard at all: Subsection B lists only flagpoles, signs, lampposts, ornamental objects, seasonal decorations and landscaping accessories as permitted accessory structures there, and Subsection A requires any yard facing a public street to meet the zone's minimum front-yard setback for principal structures.

Read together, a resident cannot park a camper, travel trailer, boat on a trailer, or a heavy truck like a dump truck or box truck in front of the house, even temporarily, unless it is kept on an approved rear or side parking surface consistent with the rest of the chapter's yard and setback scheme. The rule is enforced by the Zoning Officer, who under Section 190-249 has authority to inspect premises and order in writing that a violation be remedied before further permits are issued.
