Kenai Peninsula Borough, AK Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

The Kenai Peninsula Borough writes its residential vehicle-storage limits into each Local Option Zoning District's (LOZD) own development standards chapter, KPB 21.44.160 through 21.44.180, rather than a single borough-wide rule. In the single-family R-1 zone, KPB 21.44.160(C)(8)(b) states that no more than two of either travel trailers or motor homes may be on each lot at any time, and (C)(8)(c) applies the identical two-vehicle cap to inoperable or unregistered vehicles. The small-lot R-2 zone under KPB 21.44.165 and the residential waterfront R-W zone under KPB 21.44.175 repeat the same two-trailer, two-inoperable-vehicle limits, as does the multi-family R-M zone under KPB 21.44.180.

The rural residential R-R zone is the exception: KPB 21.44.170(7) raises both caps to five travel trailers or motor homes and five inoperable or unregistered vehicles per lot, reflecting the district's larger 100,000-square-foot minimum lot size. None of these caps mention boats specifically, so a boat kept on a trailer is counted under the travel trailer limit rather than a separate category. The R-1, R-2 and R-W standards also bar offering a lot for sale or lease for a non-allowed use. Because these limits live entirely in Chapter 21.44, they bind only property inside an adopted LOZD; outside one, the unincorporated Kenai Peninsula Borough has no zoning-based restriction on how many recreational vehicles, trailers or boats a resident keeps on a lot.
