Full Breakdown
Since July 1, 2018, Long Beach has prohibited oversized vehicles from parking on residential streets without a valid Temporary Oversized Vehicle Permit. An oversized vehicle is defined as more than 22 feet long, more than 85 inches (7'1") tall, or more than 80 inches (6'8") wide. Boats and trailers are measured together with the tow vehicle.
Free permits are obtained online and allow parking adjacent to the permit holder's residence for up to 72 consecutive hours. A maximum of 20 permits may be obtained per calendar year, with a mandatory 24-hour gap between consecutive permits. Permits cannot be sold or transferred. Signage is posted at approximately 80 locations. Enforcement is complaint-based. Exceptions may be requested in writing from the City Traffic Engineer.
What Happens If You Violate This?
Parking an oversized vehicle on a residential street without a permit results in a citation. Selling or transferring a permit violates LBMC §10.32.040 with a $100 fine.
