Pasadena, CA Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Section 14.50.040(29) of the Pasadena Municipal Code declares it a public nuisance to park or store an oversized vehicle, defined to include motor homes, recreational vehicles, trailers, camper shells, slide-in campers, boats or parts of them, anywhere on residential property other than in covered parking or on a paved area at the rear of the lot. The rule only opens up driveway parking when the rear yard is physically inaccessible to the vehicle, and even then a long list of conditions applies: the vehicle must sit at least 5 feet beyond the front property line, or 5 feet from the paved street edge where there is no sidewalk; it cannot block sightlines within 15 feet of a neighbor's driveway; it cannot make garage parking spaces inaccessible; and it can only be parked on a driveway leading to covered parking, never on grass, dirt or other landscaped surfaces.

The vehicle must also be moved out of the driveway at least once every 30 days so the surface underneath can be cleaned, and it must stay fully operational, registered, and owned or leased by a resident of the property. Section 14.50.040(29)(i) bars using the vehicle for storage, living or sleeping while parked in the driveway, and forbids connecting it to water or sewer lines, for more than 72 hours; a separate 72-hour allowance exists solely for loading, unloading or trip preparation. Section 14.50.040(30) separately bans storing any abandoned, wrecked, dismantled, unregistered or inoperative RV, boat, trailer or camper on residential property outright, and subsection (31) bars parking any recreational vehicle, camper, boat or other mobile equipment directly on grass, dirt or landscaped ground.
