Mason County, WA Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Mason County Code Section 17.14.160 governs where recreational vehicles, boats and trailers may sit on residential property in the Allyn UGA. In mobile home parks, planned developments and apartment complexes, RVs cannot occupy spaces set aside for passenger-vehicle parking and must be stored as the project's development approval specifies. For single-family detached houses, duplexes and triplexes, an RV must sit beyond the front or street-side yard edge of the residence, unless it is beyond the required front or street-side setback and screened by a fence or vegetation wall at least six feet high.

The section separately allows temporary driveway or street parking of an RV for cleaning, loading or unloading, even where the permanent-storage rule would not otherwise apply. Habitation is the sharpest restriction: nobody may live in an RV parked or stored on a residential lot or on the street, with two narrow exceptions, a self-contained vehicle on a private residential lot, or any vehicle designed for habitation on a lot that already has a residence, and only after the building official issues a permit and copies it to the sheriff's office.

Enforcement runs through Mason County Community Development and the sheriff's office for unpermitted habitation complaints. The rule sits within Chapter 17.14, "Off-Street Parking in the Allyn UGA," so it applies specifically to Allyn-area residential parcels rather than countywide.
