Mason County, WA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 10.52.405(a)(1) flatly bars stopping, standing, or parking on the roadway side of a vehicle already at the curb, on a sidewalk or planting strip, within an intersection, on a crosswalk, next to a street excavation that would block traffic, on a bridge or in a tunnel, on railroad tracks, or wherever an official sign prohibits stopping. Subsection (a)(2) adds distance buffers for standing or parking, even briefly: a vehicle may not stand within five feet of a driveway's curb radius, fifteen feet of a fire hydrant, twenty feet of a crosswalk, thirty feet of the approach to a stop sign, yield sign, or signal, or within twenty feet of a fire station driveway, seventy-five feet on the opposite side of the street.

Subsection (a)(3) bars parking, as opposed to momentary loading, within fifty feet of a railroad crossing. Subsection (b) separately makes it unlawful to move an unattended vehicle into any of these prohibited zones or an unlawful distance from the curb. The chapter was adopted by Resolution 78 in 1970, carrying RCW 46.61.570 word for word into the county code, so the same buffers apply on every county-maintained road in Belfair, Allyn, Hoodsport, and the rest of unincorporated Mason County. Section 10.52.400 gives any police officer authority to have an illegally stopped vehicle moved, and the sheriff sets the removal charge, which becomes a lien on the vehicle until the owner pays it.
