RV and boat storage in Santa Monica is restricted in residential zones. Oversized vehicles may not be stored on streets for extended periods. On-property storage may require screening. The 72-hour street parking rule applies.
Under SMMC Β§3.12.900 (amended February 13, 2024), noncommercial passenger vehicles exceeding 8 feet in width, 8 feet in height, or 20 feet in length must display an Overnight Oversize Parking permit when parked between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM. The permit is valid within 2 blocks of the applicant's residential address in residential areas only. No more than one permit may be issued per 30-day period per address. Resident cost is $2.00 per day (maximum 30 days). Visitor permits cost $10.00 per day for a maximum of one 7-day period per month. Permits must be visibly displayed on the rear-view mirror. Commercial-registered vehicles are ineligible.
Parking an oversized vehicle without a valid permit displayed between 9 PM and 6 AM results in a parking citation. The permit does not exempt from other parking restrictions (preferential parking, street sweeping, meters, etc.).
