Sutter County, CA Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Sutter County's published Code of Ordinances does not contain a general chapter restricting recreational vehicles, boats, or boat trailers stored on private residential property in the unincorporated area, and the Zoning Code's parking article (Chapter 1500-20) regulates required off-street spaces rather than prohibiting RV or boat storage on a homeowner's lot. The one targeted recreational-vehicle provision in the Zoning Code, Section 1500-05-030(N), permits a single recreational vehicle to provide seasonal security at existing permitted marinas and boat-launch facilities; that RV must be licensed and ready for highway use, may be located in a designated floodplain or floodway from April 25 of a given year, and must be removed annually by October 20 so it is onsite fewer than 180 consecutive days.

On public roads, the controlling limit is Traffic Code Section 1120-120, under which no vehicle may remain standing or parked on any County street, roadway, or alley for more than 120 hours; longer-standing vehicles may be removed under Chapter 10 of Division 11 of the California Vehicle Code. Where the County Health and Sanitation or zoning nuisance rules apply, inoperative or junk RVs stored in the open can be abated under Chapter 955. Because there is no specific residential-lot RV ordinance, owners should confirm setback and floodplain rules with the County Development Services Department before long-term storage.
