Yuba City Municipal Code requires boats, trailers, and RVs to be parked behind a front wall of the residential property at least 6 feet tall. Front-yard storage is prohibited except for RVs in daily transportation use, which may park overnight in recognized parking areas.
Under the Yuba City Zoning Code (Title 8), recreational vehicles, boats, and trailers stored on residential lots must be located behind a front wall of the property that is at least six feet tall — effectively prohibiting open front-yard RV/boat storage. The Yuba City Police Department further enforces Article 14 of Title 4, Chapter 9 (Oversize Vehicle Parking) on public streets: a vehicle exceeding 25 feet in length, 7 feet in width, or 7 feet in height is classified as 'oversized' and may be towed within 48 hours of being tagged, rather than the standard 120-hour (5-day) window for ordinary vehicles. In October 2023 the City Council unanimously initiated an amendment that would allow a single RV/boat/trailer in front-yard areas if parked in front of an existing garage or in a front side-yard meeting driveway standards, with at least a 1-foot setback from the public sidewalk or right-of-way; check current code for adoption status. California Vehicle Code §22651 separately authorizes removal of vehicles stored on a highway for 72+ hours.
Violations of the zoning code provisions are typically enforced by Yuba City Code Enforcement and may be cited as municipal infractions (general infraction fines under California Government Code §36900: up to $100 first offense, $200 second, $500 third within one year). Oversize vehicles parked on the public street in violation of Article 14 may be towed within 48 hours after being tagged. Owners are responsible for tow and storage costs.
