Yuba City restricts where residential vehicles, boats, trailers and RVs can be parked on private property. Traditional rules require RVs/boats/trailers to be screened behind a six-foot front wall; recent code revisions allow limited front-yard parking on improved surfaces with a one-foot setback from sidewalks.
Yuba City Municipal Code Title 8 (Planning and Zoning), Chapter 5 governs residential parking standards, with Article 50 covering special standards for residential and accessory uses and Article 61 covering off-street parking and loading. Under the longstanding rule confirmed by city staff, boats, trailers and recreational vehicles must be parked behind a front wall at least six feet tall; RVs used regularly for daily transportation are exempt when parked overnight in recognized parking areas. In 2023 the City Council directed staff to amend the code to allow one boat, trailer or RV in a front-yard area when parked on an improved surface meeting city driveway standards and set back at least one foot from the public sidewalk or right-of-way. New driveway connections require an encroachment permit from Public Works. Parking on the lawn or unpaved areas of the front yard is prohibited.
Code Enforcement issues notices of violation for parking on unpaved surfaces, exceeding the front-yard RV/boat/trailer limit, or failure to meet setback rules. Violations are processed administratively; continuing violations may escalate to administrative citations with daily fines under the Yuba City Municipal Code. Report driveway violations through yc311 or call (530) 822-4703.
