Kalamazoo does not print a stand-alone snow-emergency ordinance in its Code of Ordinances; the city's plowing-related parking authority is folded into the overnight parking curfew at City Code § 36-170. Under § 36-170(D), any vehicle already parked in violation of the 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew in Subsection A is subject to immediate impoundment, in addition to being ticketed, whenever the Director of Public Works or a designee decides the vehicle is interfering, or will interfere, with necessary street maintenance service, including but not limited to street cleaning or snow plowing operations.

That means a car left on the street overnight during a snowstorm faces towing at the Director's discretion, not merely a parking ticket. Separately, the City's general schedule of fines at § 36-185 carries its own line item for 'Alternate side of street parking,' a distinct violation category billed at $15.00 initially, $30.00 after seven days, $40.00 after 14 days and $50.00 after 30 days unpaid, the same escalation tier used for expired-meter and overtime violations. The Traffic Engineer's general authority to restrict parking and post signs, under § 36-4(C) and (D), is the mechanism by which any specific alternate-side or snow-route signage would be erected and enforced on particular streets.
