Bethel, CT Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Bethel's traffic code (Chapter 107, adopted by the Board of Selectmen July 29, 1983 and rewritten in its entirety March 19, 2002) sets the baseline parking rules for every public street in Town. Section 107-5 bars stopping or parking within an intersection, within 25 feet of an intersection or marked crosswalk, or within 25 feet of a stop sign, and separately prohibits standing a vehicle so it becomes a traffic hazard or blocks the free movement of traffic. Section 107-8 attaches dollar fines to specific violations: parking in a no-parking zone, on a sidewalk, more than 12 inches from the curb, within the 25-foot buffers, in a permit-only space, or blocking a driveway draws a $15 ticket payable to the Clerk of the Police Department within 30 days.

The same $15 fine applies to parking on the wrong side of the street, blocking traffic flow, or standing in a bus stop. Parking within 10 feet of a fire hydrant or in a handicapped space costs $25. Beyond fines, Section 107-12 lets police tow or immobilize any vehicle blocking a driveway or parked within 10 feet of a hydrant or in a handicapped space, without the area first needing to be posted as a towaway zone. Section 107-10 makes the registration plate on file prima facie evidence that the registered owner was the one who parked illegally, and Section 107-15 lets the Board of Selectmen raise the penalty when the original fine goes unpaid past 30 days.
