Vehicles on public streets in unincorporated San Diego County cannot be parked for more than 72 consecutive hours. A vehicle must be moved at least 0.5 miles from its original location within each 72-hour period per County Code Section 72.122.
County Code Section 72.122 prohibits using streets for vehicle storage. No person who owns or has possession, custody, or control of any vehicle shall park it on any street or alley for more than 72 consecutive hours. A vehicle is considered to have been parked for 72 hours if it has not been moved at least five-tenths (0.5) of a mile from its original location within the preceding 72 hours. This applies to all vehicles including cars, trucks, RVs, trailers, and boats on trailers. The Sheriff's Department enforces parking regulations in unincorporated areas.
Vehicles violating the 72-hour rule may receive a parking citation and may be towed at the owner's expense. The Sheriff's Department handles enforcement.
