Cheyenne, WY Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Ordinary street parking in Cheyenne turns on Sections 10.52.010 and 10.52.020 of the City Code. Section 10.52.010 sets the position of the vehicle: it must stand or park parallel to the curb, with wheels within 12 inches of the curb, and headed in the direction of lawful traffic flow. Parking against traffic on a Cheyenne street is a violation even where the space itself is legal.

Section 10.52.020(B) then lists places where no one may stand or park at all. The list includes within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, on a sidewalk or crosswalk, and within 30 feet of an intersection curb line. Paragraph (B)(4) adds the driveway rule: no person shall stand or park a vehicle or trailer in front of or within five (5) feet of a public or private driveway, an alley, or a ramp that provides access for persons with physical disabilities.

Several words in paragraph (B)(4) matter. The ban covers trailers as well as vehicles. It applies whether the vehicle is occupied or not, so a driver waiting behind the wheel does not make the spot legal. It covers both public and private driveways, which means a neighbor's driveway gets the same 5 foot buffer as a Cheyenne alley. The buffer works in front of the opening and beside it: a vehicle may not sit in front of the opening, and it may not sit within 5 feet of it.

The Cheyenne text carries its own limits. The prohibitions apply except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic. The driveway prohibition also shall not apply to a driver's personal private driveway. A Cheyenne resident may therefore park across the mouth of their own driveway, but that exception is written for the driver's driveway and does not mention alleys or access ramps.
