Section 58-242 sets the basic on-street parking posture: a vehicle must stand parallel to the curb, headed in the direction of lawful traffic, with its right-hand wheels within 18 inches of the curb or roadway edge on two-way streets, mirrored on either side of one-way streets. Angle parking is allowed only where the city traffic engineer has marked and signed a street for it under Section 58-243; parking at an angle anywhere else is a violation. Section 58-244 requires drivers to leave at least 22 feet of roadway width free on ordinary streets and ten feet in alleys, and lets the traffic engineer post no-parking signs on streets 22 feet wide or narrower, or on one side of streets up to 30 feet wide.

Section 58-245 lists specific places where stopping, standing or parking is banned outright: sidewalks, in front of any public or private driveway or theater entrance, intersections, crosswalks, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant or a designated fire lane, within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, within 50 feet of a stop sign or signal, double-parking on the roadway side of a parked vehicle, and striped bicycle lanes.
