Street parking on unincorporated Contra Costa County roads is governed primarily by the California Vehicle Code as enforced by the Sheriff's Office and by local restrictions adopted under Ordinance Code Title 4, Division 46 (Vehicles and Traffic). CVC Section 22651(k) authorizes removal of any vehicle parked on a public street for more than 72 consecutive hours. Vehicles must not block driveways, fire hydrants (within 15 feet), crosswalks, or sidewalks per CVC 22500. Many unincorporated neighborhoods (Kensington, El Sobrante, Rodeo, Bay Point, Bethel Island) have posted time-limited zones, residential permit parking areas, and street-sweeping-day restrictions that require vehicles to be moved on scheduled sweeping days to avoid citation. Parking a vehicle for the principal purpose of displaying it for sale on a county road is prohibited.
