Brentwood enforces a 72-hour maximum continuous street parking limit consistent with California Vehicle Code Β§22651(k), along with posted street sweeping restrictions and permit-only zones in certain neighborhoods. Vehicles must be moved at least one-tenth of a mile after 72 hours or they may be cited and towed.
Street parking in Brentwood is primarily regulated by the city's Municipal Code and California Vehicle Code. Under CVC Β§22651(k), any vehicle parked continuously on a public street for more than 72 hours may be cited and towed, regardless of whether the vehicle is operable or currently registered. Simply moving the vehicle a few feet does not reset the clock; the vehicle must be moved a minimum of one-tenth of a mile. Street sweeping occurs on a posted weekly schedule in most residential neighborhoods, and vehicles left on the sweep side during posted hours receive citations. Parking is prohibited within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, 20 feet of a marked crosswalk at an intersection, 3 feet of a marked disabled-access ramp, and in any red-curb zone. Overnight parking restrictions exist in a few designated districts and near schools during drop-off/pick-up hours. Some downtown blocks have time-limited parking (typically 2-hour) to support retail turnover. Brentwood does not currently operate a citywide residential permit parking program, but HOA private streets may impose their own rules independently of city enforcement. Complaints about long-term or abandoned vehicles can be submitted to the Brentwood Police Department parking enforcement unit, which typically chalks the vehicle and returns after 72 hours to verify movement.
