Frederick County, VA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 158-4 of the Frederick County Code, part of Chapter 158's Article II on stopping, standing and parking, lists a dozen specific street-parking violations, each with its own flat fine rather than a single catch-all penalty. Double-parking alongside a vehicle already at the curb, perpendicular or diagonal parking instead of parallel to the street, parking against the flow of traffic, parking without a current state license plate or inspection sticker, parking so as to stop or obstruct traffic, parking within 20 feet of a corner or intersection, blocking a driveway or property entrance, parking on a sidewalk or public walking trail, and parking contrary to an official highway sign are each unlawful under subsections A through L, and each draws a fine of $40.

Parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant or in a marked fire lane also carries a $40 fine under subsections I and J, while parking without a proper permit in a disabled space, or in the adjacent access aisle, carries a higher $100 fine under subsection K. Section 158-5 puts enforcement in the hands of the Sheriff, his deputies and designees, with the Fire Marshal or a deputy also authorized to cite hydrant and fire-lane violations. Under § 158-6, a citation is attached to the vehicle, and registration as the owner is prima facie evidence the registered owner committed the violation.

The ticket can be paid to the County Treasurer within 30 days; after that the fine rises by $10 and a summons may issue, though a driver may first contest the citation before the Sheriff or Fire Marshal, who certifies the matter to General District Court for a hearing.
