Lakeville prohibits leaving any vehicle, trailer, boat, snowmobile, or seasonal vehicle on a city street, alley, or city-owned lot for more than 48 consecutive hours, and bars parking that blocks a driveway or mailbox. Winter overnight restrictions also apply November 1 to April 1.
Under Lakeville City Code 6-1-1-3 (Parking), no owner of a motor vehicle, trailer, boat, snowmobile, or seasonal vehicle may leave, park, or permit it to stand on any city street, alley, or city-owned parking lot for more than 48 hours; the lot restriction does not apply to city-owned vehicles. The same section prohibits parking that blocks access to a driveway or to a mailbox, which protects mail delivery and resident access. Layered on top of the year-round 48-hour rule is Lakeville's winter parking ordinance: between November 1 and April 1, on-street parking is banned from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., and parking is prohibited any time the National Weather Service forecasts an accumulation of two or more inches of snow until the street or alley has been plowed. Residences without an established driveway, including new construction, are exempt from the winter parking restrictions. Parking-space designation and signage are governed by related provisions in Chapter 1 of Title 6.
Parking violations are enforced by the Lakeville Police Department. A vehicle left over 48 hours, or parked in violation of the winter or snow rules, may be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense. Blocking a driveway or mailbox is a separate violation under 6-1-1-3. The City Code prescribes general penalty provisions for ordinance violations; specific ticket amounts are set by the City's fee/penalty schedule.
