Lakeville's winter parking ordinance bans on-street parking from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. between November 1 and April 1, even with no snow, and prohibits parking during snow events until streets are plowed. Homes without an established driveway are exempt.
Lakeville does not impose a general year-round overnight on-street parking ban, but its seasonal winter parking ordinance (City Code 6-1-1-3) functions as an overnight restriction for nearly half the year. From November 1 through April 1 of the following year, no owner of a motor vehicle, trailer, boat, snowmobile, or seasonal vehicle may leave it standing on a street or alley between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. The ban applies even when there is no snow on the ground. Separately, parking is prohibited at any time the National Weather Service forecasts an accumulation of two or more inches of snow until the street or alley has been plowed, so a daytime snow event can also trigger a no-parking period. The ordinance expressly exempts residences without an established driveway, including new construction, recognizing that those households may have no off-street option. Outside the winter window, the year-round 48-hour limit still applies, so vehicles cannot simply be left on the street indefinitely overnight.
Vehicles parked on the street during the 2 a.m.-6 a.m. winter window, or during a forecast snow event before plowing, may be ticketed and towed by the Lakeville Police Department to allow snowplows through. Towing and storage charges are billed to the vehicle owner. The City urges residents to use driveways and garages during winter months to avoid citations and plow damage.
