Norwalk, CT Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 98-7 requires any stationary vehicle on the traveled portion of a street or highway to be on the right-hand side in the direction it is headed, unless the street is one-way and left-side parking is marked, and, where the street is curbed, to sit within 12 inches of the curb, occupying no more than one marked space. This effectively bars wrong-way parking. Section 98-8 layers on a no-parking-zone rule: no vehicle may stop anywhere marked off-limits by signs the traffic authority posts, notwithstanding § 98-7.

Section 98-10 bars parking within 25 feet of an intersection unless spaces are otherwise marked, within a marked crosswalk, within a posted bus stop, or within 25 feet of a posted stop sign. Section 98-13 separately bans parking in front of or so as to obstruct ingress or egress from any private driveway or alleyway, except with the driveway owner's permission. Section 98-9 bars parking on or across a public sidewalk except to cross it to reach an adjacent property or perform sidewalk work. Section 98-12 bans parking within 10 feet of a fire hydrant, and § 98-17 bars double parking to the left of vehicles already parked curbside (or to the right, on a one-way street with left-side parking).

Section 98-15 prohibits parking that creates a traffic hazard or blocks free traffic movement, though a disabled vehicle may remain briefly for repairs unless a police officer directs otherwise. Section 98-19 sets the general parking-violation penalty, and § 98-22 escalates unpaid fines after 15 and again after 30 calendar days of delinquency.
