Sauk County, WI Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Sec. 6.011 does not draw its own no-parking map; instead it makes a county violation out of anything Wisconsin's parking statutes already forbid on a county highway. Subsection (1) bars parking in violation of Wis. Stats. §§ 346.51 through 346.55, the state rules covering no-parking zones, blocking a driveway or intersection, parking against traffic flow and leaving a vehicle where it obstructs a roadway, except for the brief stops Wis. Stats. § 346.50 allows. Subsection (2) does the same for the newer wrong-way and clearance rule at Wis.

Stats. § 346.505. Sec. 6.012 sets the county's own dollar amounts for each: a violation of subsection (1) carries a $20.00 forfeiture and a violation of subsection (2) carries a $150.00 forfeiture, both plus the cost of prosecution under Wis. Stats. ch. 345; either forfeiture doubles if it is not paid within ten days of issuance, and doubles again for a violation in a highway work zone covered by the statutes listed in Sec. 6.012(1)(d). Any vehicle left in violation is declared a hazard to traffic and public safety: the sheriff or a deputy can order the operator to move it, and after issuing a citation a deputy may have it towed and stored by a permitted motor carrier or a licensed vehicle dealer, with the owner paying towing and storage costs.

Sec. 6.012(2) also adopts the state's nonmoving-violation procedures under Wis. Stats. § 345.28, including suspension or refusal of vehicle registration, and lets a citation be issued to the registered owner and affixed to the vehicle rather than served in person.
