Stonecrest, GA Privacy & Surveillance: Security Camera Rules (2026)

Stonecrest Code § 18-95 requires every new or existing hotel, motel or extended-stay hotel to install a Video Surveillance System (VSS), defined as a continuous digital surveillance system of cameras, cabling, monitors and DVRs, within 180 days of July 1, 2018. Properties that already had cameras before that date had to request a City approval assessment within the same 180-day window. Under § 18-95(c), the VSS must run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, stay in proper working order, and retain continuous digital footage for no less than 21 days.

Section 18-95(d) sets minimum camera placement: at least one camera dedicated to each register or check-out stand, entrance and exit, interior hallway, lobby, swimming pool area, exercise facility, loading dock, and every parking area designated for customer or employee use, with camera placement subject to City approval before installation and a posted approval notice in the common area. Section 18-95(e) gives the City authority to inspect any VSS at reasonable times, and a hotel found out of compliance must take immediate corrective steps. This is a lodging-industry requirement, not a residential program; the City's own code does not create a homeowner camera registry or a Ring-style police partnership.

Enforcement runs through § 18-97's escalating fine schedule for chapter 18, article IX violations, and § 18-98 authorizes City employees and designees to inspect covered establishments during business hours.
