Stonecrest, GA Landscaping Rules: Composting (2026)

Stonecrest Code Sec. 22-35, within the same chapter that governs residential and commercial refuse collection, sets a beneficial-reuse mandate specifically for yard trimmings such as leaves, brush, grass clippings and prunings. Subsection (d) requires that yard trimmings be sorted and stored for collection in a manner that facilitates collection, composting, or other handling, rather than simply tossed loose with other waste. Subsection (e) goes further and directs that trimmings be sorted and stockpiled or chipped, composted, used as mulch, or otherwise beneficially reused or recycled to the maximum extent feasible, making composting and mulching the default disposal path for vegetative debris in the City rather than an optional alternative.

Those composting-and-reuse duties sit alongside the separation and container rules in the same section (covered on this site under yard-waste), which keep trimmings out of the regular solid-waste stream and out of lined landfill cells in the first place. The Code does not set out bin dimensions or a backyard-composting permit process; the mandate runs to how yard trimmings collected for the City's waste stream are processed and reused, not to a resident's private compost pile.
