Stonecrest, GA Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Section 5.4.7 of the Stonecrest Zoning Ordinance, Walls, fences, and retaining walls, sets separate height ceilings depending on where the fence sits on a single-family lot. Subsection B.1 caps a fence or freestanding wall built in a front yard at four feet, while subsection B.2 allows any freestanding wall or fence other than a retaining wall to reach eight feet everywhere else on the lot, measured from finished grade. Subsection C explains how that grade is read: height is measured along the adjacent finished grade, but if the fence sits within 15 feet of a street and the street grade sits above the adjacent finished grade, the fence height is instead measured from the street grade, which can allow a taller-looking fence at the top of a slope.

Subsection H sets a separate ten-foot ceiling for any freestanding wall or fence in a multifamily, nonresidential or mixed-use zoning district, and subsection G exempts fences and walls in the M and M-2 industrial districts from any height or material limit at all. None of these fences may obstruct the sight visibility triangle required at street and driveway intersections under Section 5.3.3, which separately prohibits any fence, wall, hedge or planting taller than 30 inches within the triangle formed at an intersection, up to eight feet above local streets and 12 feet above collector or higher streets. A homeowner who needs a taller front-yard fence must apply to the zoning board of appeals for a variance.
