Stonecrest, GA Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Stonecrest Code Sec. 22-35 carves yard trimmings out of the general refuse stream and gives them their own handling rules that override any conflicting provision elsewhere in Chapter 22. Leaves, brush, grass clippings, shrub and tree prunings and similar vegetative matter, as defined in Sec. 22-1, cannot be placed in or mixed with municipal solid waste, and they cannot go to municipal solid waste disposal facilities that have liners and leachate collection systems or that require vertical expansion, steering that material away from lined landfill cells.

The duty to keep the two streams apart falls on the occupant or owner of the premises, who must separate yard trimmings from all other municipal solid waste before it is set out. The container itself is specified too: trimmings cannot be bagged in plastic the way household garbage is; instead they must go into an 'approved receptacle for yard trimmings' as the Chapter defines that term, and every other requirement in Chapter 22 about containing yard trimmings and refuse still applies on top of that.

Together these subsections function as a diversion mandate rather than a simple collection schedule, pushing yard debris toward reuse paths described later in the same section rather than ordinary landfill disposal.
