Blue Hill, NE Property Maintenance: Snow & Sidewalk Clearing (2026)

Section 6-301 of the Blue Hill Municipal Code makes it unlawful for the occupant of any lot, or the owner of any vacant lot, within the corporate limits to allow snow, sleet, mud, ice or other substance to accumulate on the sidewalk, or to permit it to remain there. The section then sets two different clocks depending on where the property sits. the following day instead of counting hours from a nighttime cessation. Sidewalks in the residential areas of the city get a longer window: 24 hours after the storm stops.

The duty falls on the occupant of an occupied lot or the owner of a vacant lot, meaning renters as well as property owners can be on the hook in occupied properties.
