St. Peters, MO Public Conduct: Jaywalking (2026)

Section 345.060 of the St. Peters Municipal Code, Prohibited Crossing, sets four separate mid-block crossing bans. Between adjacent signalized intersections, pedestrians cannot cross anywhere except in a marked or unmarked crosswalk. Inside any business district, defined in Section 300.010 as territory with continuous commercial frontage along at least 300 feet of a highway, jaywalking is banned outright, crosswalk or not. The Board of Aldermen may also designate specific streets by ordinance where crosswalk-only crossing applies even outside a business district or signalized corridor. Separately, Subsection (D) bars pedestrians from crossing an intersection diagonally unless an official traffic control device specifically authorizes the movement, and even then crossing must follow the device's markings.

These rules sit inside a broader pedestrian chapter: Section 345.020 gives pedestrians the right-of-way in a marked crosswalk when signals are dark, Section 345.050 flips that duty back onto the pedestrian outside a crosswalk, and Section 345.090 requires every driver to exercise the highest degree of care around pedestrians regardless of who has the right-of-way. St. Peters Police Department enforces Chapter 345 citywide. The chapter carries no penalty clause of its own, so a Section 345.060 violation defaults to the City's general penalty, Section 100.060: a fine of up to $500.00, up to 90 days in jail, or both, with each day of a continuing violation charged as a separate offense.
