Under Rule 37 of the Code's parks and recreation regulations, Miami-Dade County bans smoking on all Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department property and at its named public beaches -- Haulover, Crandon, Rickenbacker Causeway, the Matheson Hammock and Homestead Bayfront atoll pools, Larry and Penny Thompson, and Amelia Earhart. Smoking means inhaling, exhaling, burning, carrying or possessing any lighted tobacco product; unfiltered cigars are exempt. Miami-Dade Police enforce the ban under Sec. 26-2 at every County park and beach property, whether inside a municipality or in the unincorporated area. Adopted by Ord. No. 23-38 in June 2023.
