Dallas Code Chapter 31-3 and Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code prohibit public alcohol consumption on streets, sidewalks, and parks; Deep Ellum and limited entertainment districts allow open containers within posted boundaries during designated events only.
Public alcohol consumption is generally prohibited on Dallas streets, sidewalks, public parks, and parking lots under Dallas City Code Chapter 31-3 and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code. The TABC licenses on-premise consumption only inside permitted establishments. Dallas does not have a citywide open-container district like Fort Worth's Sundance Square, but the Deep Ellum Foundation and similar entertainment districts can obtain temporary special-event permits allowing open containers within posted boundaries during festivals. Possession of an open container in a vehicle is prohibited statewide. Klyde Warren Park, the Arts District, and Fair Park allow alcohol only at licensed venues or permitted events; outdoor consumption elsewhere remains illegal.
Open container on streets, sidewalks, parks: Class C misdemeanor, fine up to $500. Public intoxication under TX Penal Code 49.02 carries similar penalties. Driving with open container: Class C misdemeanor with mandatory minimum.
