Jonesboro, AR Public Conduct: Public Alcohol Use (2026)

Outside the Entertainment District, Jonesboro's general open-container rule bars drinking from, or possessing, any open can, bottle, or glass container of alcohol on the streets, sidewalks, rights-of-way, and parking lots under Section 6-50(3) of the Code of Ordinances. Inside the boundaries of the Jonesboro Entertainment District established by Ordinance No. m. Thursday through Saturday under Section 6-50. No district container may hold more than 16 fluid ounces under Section 6-50(4) and (5), and it cannot leave the licensed premises in a can, bottle, or glass.

Drinking is still barred in government buildings and in businesses that haven't opted into the district. Section 6-51 separately bans consuming alcohol inside a motor vehicle parked on any public street, lot, or publicly accessible place within the district, and Section 6-52 bars carrying an open container of alcohol bought outside the district into the district. Enforcement runs through the Jonesboro Police Department and the Arkansas Alcoholic Beverage Control Division; a district container found outside the district boundary, or found on a person without a matching wristband, is subject to seizure and destruction under Section 6-53, on top of any separate charge such as minor in possession or public intoxication.
