Mosinee, WI Public Conduct: Public Alcohol Use (2026)

Section 6-4 of the Mosinee Code of Ordinances makes it unlawful to sell, serve, consume, carry, or expose to view an open container of any alcoholic beverage on any street, sidewalk, alley, public parking lot, highway, cemetery, drive, or parking area held out for business use, or any other public area within the city, and the same ban reaches private property where the owner has not consented. The ordinance defines "public area" broadly to include commercial parking lots that do not require the owner's specific permission to enter.

City-owned parks and recreation areas carry a narrower rule: open containers are allowed there, but glass containers remain banned regardless of location. The Common Council can waive the open-container rule outright for a duly authorized event, and a group holding a temporary Class "B" fermented malt beverage picnic license under section 6-42(e), available for gatherings such as fairs, post meetings, or lodge picnics, may also serve alcohol under that separate permit even in a public setting like a city park. "Alcoholic beverage" is defined to reach any ardent, spirituous, distilled, or vinous liquor as well as any fermented malt beverage containing one-half of one percent or more alcohol by volume.

Because section 6-4 sits inside chapter 6, a violation falls under the chapter's general alcohol penalty in section 6-3(b), which routes an offender to the citywide forfeiture schedule in section 1-13. The police department enforces the chapter by citation under section 1-14.
